There are thousands of marketing agencies with articles on hiring a marketing agency. It’s good for SEO purposes. It’s a common question some of my friends ask too.
The reason this is a frequent question is that they understand that marketing is important for their business growth, but they’re unsure where to start. It’s a lot of information to sort out too
What I notice with some clients is that they manage to learn new keywords like SEO and KPIs which is an awesome start. However, they don’t generally understand the full depth of what they’re talking about or how it works.
Agencies are an attractive option because they offer a full package of services.
Before considering a marketing agency, here are questions to ask yourself.
- How important is marketing to you?
- Do you want your brand to stand out?
- What is your budget?
- Do you have someone to manage the agency full time
How Important is Marketing to You
Marketing Agencies have the tools and the resources. However, what you need to remember with a marketing agency is that agencies have a group of businesses they advertise for.
Do You Want Your Brand to Stand Out
Marketing agencies provide stability. They have a team of experts that can bring your brand to life. The one concern is that marketing agencies aren’t solely focused on your company or brand.
In most cases, you won’t be the only business they work on. It’s not a bad thing. It’s a scenario to consider though if you want your business to be unique.
What is Your Budget?
Agencies aren’t cheap. Despite their cost comparisons with hiring a marketer, you may find yourself spending more in the long run.
You can find agencies that are on the lower end of your budget. They do come at a cost though. The common misconception is that agencies are cheaper than hiring someone part-time or full-time.
This isn’t always the case. Marketing agencies are great if you have the budget and don’t want to spend the time building a team.
Do You Have Someone to Manage the Agency Full-Time?
I’ve seen this too many times. A company will hire a marketing agency and not check them on their data sources or key performance metrics.
You need to have someone managing the marketing agency who understands marketing. I say this because you want to know you’re getting your money’s worth about it.
Normally, I’d tell a startup and a small business to look at alternatives because of the cost-effectiveness. You can build a good marketing strategy without a marketing agency. If you do want to hire a marketing agency, make sure they fit with your company’s mission.
Should you hire a marketing agency? It really depends on you and your business goals. Small businesses can generally succeed without a marketing agency and can rely on freelancers to help them.
However, it’s an option if you would prefer to manage rather than be involved.
