I know what you might be thinking. Who can survive without social media in 2021? It’s literally everywhere.
I have most social media apps on my phone including Twitter, Instagram, Tik Tok, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, and Youtube.
In my marketing career, I had to learn how to strategize for each platform because, despite their similarities, they’re uniquely different in how you engage customers.
I like using Social Media because I see the benefits it has for leveraging a business’ reach to its audience.
Depending on who your target audience is, it’s a quicker way in finding the right people that will buy your products or services.
Social Media definitely helps in business, but that’s not the question here. It’s convenient and relatively inexpensive. Nevertheless, let’s say for argument’s sake you decided to opt-out of social media permanently for your business.
Can a business actually survive without social media? If so, what are the alternatives to social media.
The answer to the question is a simple yes.
There are companies that survive without social media. I’ve come across several already that are doing well for themselves without a social media presence. For instance, Stress-Free Maids don’t have a big social media presence.
This cleaning company is based out of Virginia. What makes them an incredible story is that they don’t use social media campaigns to build interest in their brand.
Despite this, they’re successful.
If they don’t use social media, what do they use then?
You’d be surprised as most of their clients are from word-of-mouth, referrals, and Yelp. It’s not clear-cut as people want to make it seem. Is it possible that a social media presence would increase their clients?
Absolutely! However, that’s not the question at hand. Companies, similar to Stress-Free Maids, survive and thrive without social media.
Marketing isn’t clear-cut. There are no one-size-fits-all strategies for companies out there. A marketing channel is a tool nothing more. It’s really about the message and who you are delivering it to.
Finally, if you have an excellent product or service, then you don’t need to worry about not succeeding. Your customers take care of you.
What are alternatives to social media?
Email marketing continues to be one of the strongest forms of marketing in 2021. Though it’s on the older side of digital marketing, more businesses and customers trust emails over other forms of marketing.
Social Media is an experience while email marketing or campaigns get straight to the point. Prospect fully expect that their emails are filled with information or possible products that will interest them.
Referrals and Word of Mouth
I created an entire article on referrals and word-of-mouth marketing. A customer referral is one of the best forms of marketing out there. The reason is that people trust those closest to them to tell them the truth.
Think about the last time you spoke to a friend or a loved one who suggested a product to you. What was your reaction? This is why word of mouth and referrals are great alternatives.
I’ve seen companies flourish with simply word-of-mouth marketing. The best part is that you don’t spend an extra dime on this type of marketing. Great products will find the ears of others.
Yelp for Business
You can trust Yelp reviews.
I’m not the biggest fan of Yelp. I have my reasons for not liking it. What makes Yelp effective though is that people trust it. The reviews on Yelp are usually authentic.
I can’t deny that Yelp is helpful to local businesses. It’s an effective tool for generating leads and build traffic especially if you service the areas near you.
Most people trust Yelp over Google reviews because they’re hard to fabricate. Yelp has a filtering system that makes sure that businesses can’t rate themselves.
With that being said, businesses can survive without social media. Social Media’s main purpose is to optimize your marketing strategy.
While I do recommend having a social media presence, I know that there are other effective marketing strategies that don’t need it.
