Pause, take a minute. Can you think of your favorite brand? What are that brand’s best qualities? We are all familiar with brands in the stores. The common theme with these brands is that they are recognizable.
Usually, we recognize brands by the following qualities:
- They build an emotional connection
Branding doesn’t just apply to companies though. You can brand yourself too in both business and the world of employment. The strategy is to make yourself stand out by adding value to who you are and what you do.
Companies don’t need to be large to be branded. If you are a sole owner of a business, an author, or an employee searching for employment, branding is useful.
Here are ways branding is useful.
Create a Memorable Slogan
A successful product has a connection with the customers. For instance, Nike’s slogan is “Just Do It.” What slogans do is that they build an emotional connection.
Branding is a way of identifying yourself with special qualities. It’s like a short advertisement. Let us say you wanted to advertise yourself and you were currently a “marketing specialist.” Most people would identify themselves by their job title.
Instead of branding yourself as a “marketing specialist.” You could say something like “I help companies market themselves so they can increase profits.” You want to make yourself out to be more attractive with what you represent rather than what you do.
Color Schemes Help
Color schemes are useful for branding. In addition to having a slogan or something you stand for, focus on color schemes too. What colors represent you and your brand?
Once you pick a color scheme, stay consistent. Slogans and color schemes should be mentioned often to your potential customers or employers. This way it sticks with them.
Be Honest and Unique
This is harder than people assume. Think about how you create ideas. Do you search online for potential ideas or designs? What people often try to do is use the internet to tweak and change things that have already been done.
While there is nothing wrong with this approach, it loses uniqueness because you base your ideas on someone else’s. You lose yourself in the identity of others.
I’d suggest being alone for at least half an hour to an hour a day. Turn off your phone. Turn off any other distractions. If you need to, take a walk. This is where you can find your best ideas. Ask yourself what you are good at. Then look around you.
This self reflection is a way you can find your greatest ideas while remaining true to yourself too.
